Mixing
and Applying Phoenix Flooring
- Select
the color and type of kit to match your job requirement. In a
relatively short period of time, just about anyone can be trained
to lay down our product correctly with a trowel. Phoenix One-Step
is packaged in five gallon steel pails (one pail is a "kit") which
contain the color aggregates, and a gallon can of epoxy (marked
"A") and a quart can of curing agent (marked "B"). Do not alter
proportions and do not add thinners.
- Place
a clean empty unlined five gallon mixing pail into the Phoenix
Power Blender (available from American Hi-Tech Flooring Company).
Open the gallon can of epoxy and the quart can of curing agent.
Pour the epoxy ('A") in first. Pour component B (curing agent)
into component A (epoxy) and mix with a clean paddle to a uniform
consistency. Make sure all of the product is removed from cans
A and B to insure product consistency and performance. Thorough
mixing of components A and B are essential to proper performance.
- Turn
mixing machine on, and allow
resins to mix for a minimum of 1 1/2 minutes. Pour
marble aggregates slowly into the resin, and mix for 3-5 minutes.
Move the mixing blade from side to side to insure total blending.
Material will look a bit "dry"
initially. When the material reaches a very
wet look, it is mixed properly. When mixing in a cold environment,
additional mixing time should be allowed to ensure thorough mixing.
Usable working life (Pot Life) at 75 degrees Fahrenheit, 50% relative
humidity is approximately one hour. Working life will be longer
at lower temperatures and shorter at higher temperatures.
- Pour
the product from the mixing bucket over the prepared surface.
Make sure that your trowel has a smooth, clean surface. Trowel
out the product to an even
consistency of about 3/16 inch. You will be able to tell that
you have reached a little less than this thickness when you feel
the largest marble aggregate on your trowel. Press all the material
down to the size of the largest marble aggregate. This is 1/8'
(2/16th inch) thickness. You want to maintain just a slightly
greater thickness. Trowel over about 1/16" more to achieve the
desired thickness, and work this thickness in smooth long strokes
from one end of your floor to the other. Once you have completed
making the floor 3/16 of an inch all over - take a look for uniform
consistency. Then, let it set for about 3-5 minutes so that the
material has time to settle tight to the floor. Then, start your
finishing strokes.
